Function: Assembles, audits and prepares the paperwork necessary to ship orders to our customers. Coordinates shipping schedules and receiving times directly with customers. Forwards customer support documentation as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Verifies customer order requirements that must be met for an order to be shipped. Those requirements are as follows:

Metallurgical, NDT and Quality release;
Customer order restrictions for receiving;
Bundle weight restrictions;
Piece count restrictions;
Special bundling instructions, if any;
Mixed heats restrictions;
Special instructions in USER TEXT field;
Hold requirements.

Verifies that order footage and order weight meet the order requirements. If outside the guidelines of the order, coordinates necessary support to correct or have the discrepancy corrected. Support actions include:

Determines if the order is billed as complete or partial;
Offers overage to sales department;
Offer shortage to sales including rerolls promise from Planning & Scheduling to complete order.
Any overage customer will not accept or material not meeting customer requirements will be stocked and lift tickets created.

Performs order status update using Jobscope/FOCUS computer programs.


Bills orders as Partial (P) or Complete (C) performing necessary Jobscope transactions as required.

Utilizes Jobscope order entry/USER TEXT to note customer receiving hours, special carrier notes or any other Traffic-related special notes relating to the order on the Load Reports.

Creates the Shipments Billed through Traffic Daily Report based on individual daily transactions.

Creates shipping documents and as required computer support functions, including customer notification and customer special instruction relating to the shipping documents: (hard copy).

Bill of Lading
Shipping notice/packing list
Test reports

Assembles necessary paperwork that accompanies shipment and/or is mailed or faxed to the customer.

Is the liaison with Accounting, Inside Sales, Shipping and the customer.

Performs the following miscellaneous duties as required:

Generates daily shipment record;
Works at the direction of the Traffic Scheduler;
Generates non-conforming material waiver forms for off tolerance material;
Sends and receives customer/carrier information via fax;
Maintains files on shipments, load reports, etc.; and
Other job-related duties as required.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate and able to work with programs such as Word, Excel, etc., and be able to learn and use HP programs such as e-mail, established programs, etc.
